Some Thai Girls Aren’t Girls

Anyone who has ever visited Thailand will know the beauty of Thai women. In their twenty, they are bright. In their thirties, they’re looking for more mature, but still most of them very attractive.

Women working in bars and massage parlors ubiquitous Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket mostly former housewives, believe it or not, married, but separately, with two children they left back to their village with their mothers. Most of Isaan, the north-eastern corner of Thailand, which has a large amount of poverty. Some of the other parts of the country, especially in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and very few from Bangkok or central Thailand.

But about 1 in 100 woman does not, but “ladyboy”, or katoey in Thai language. Quite often they appear more feminine than real women. I saw a lot of farang ogle and lust after a very sexy woman, not realizing that “she” is “it”.

Like women, most of ladyboys Isaan. I spoke with several one-to-case basis, and asked them when they first knew that they wanted to be a woman. All said they knew at an early age, about 5 or 6 years. They said they liked women do not like rough sports, were partial to art and music.

Katoeys are accepted part of Thai culture, is considered a third sex in Thailand. Some of them movie stars and TV announcers. One is the national champion kick-boxing. You will find ladyboys everywhere, working as waiters, store clerks, barbers, couriers, etc.

In North America and Europe, sex-change (also called gender reassignment) operation is considered a big deal, requiring many months of psychological counseling before the operation to make sure the person is committed to change.

In Thailand, sex change operation is fairly common. There are several clinics and hospitals who perform it, and the share price that Western charges would normally 5000-7000 U.S. USA. Nevertheless, for a man of the poor Isaan, $ 5000 a huge amount of money. (more…)
